I was brought on by my mentor, Greg Fisk, and the team at Thorough Studio as the Lead Motion Designer to help concept and develop three distinct motion graphic packages for Microsoft and its Innovation Lab division. Each lab demanded a unique visual language — from the high-security Digital Crimes Unit, to the sensory precision of the Anechoic Chamber (one of the quietest rooms in the world), to the human-centered vision of the Inclusive Tech Lab.

The Design Journey
Our challenge was to craft motion systems that reflected the identity and purpose of each lab, while maintaining Microsoft’s broader brand ethos of clarity, innovation, and inclusivity. Working closely with Microsoft’s internal team, Greg and I developed creative frameworks and short-form motion assets that brought each environment to life.

Composing the Motion Identity

  • Concept Development: Collaborated on creative direction and moodboards for each lab, ensuring each motion system conveyed its own narrative tone.

  • Visual Design: Built bespoke animation packages in After Effects and Cinema 4D, focusing on texture, light, and rhythm to represent innovation and human connection.

  • Collaboration: Worked directly with the studio team and Microsoft stakeholders to refine timing, transitions, and visual pacing for clarity and emotion.

  • Adaptation: Designed flexible motion templates to support scalability across multiple formats and internal communications.

Innovation in Motion
The final deliverables showcased three cohesive yet distinct worlds under one unified Microsoft identity — a visual conversation between technology, innovation, and humanity. Each motion piece became a reflection of Microsoft’s ongoing pursuit of progress, proving how design can embody both logic and emotion.
